THE PROGRAMThe program in economics at Seton Hall is very flexible in that it allows you to earn a degree through the W. Paul Stillman School of Business or the College of Arts and Sciences. The very nature of this arrangement allows economics majors exposure to and interaction with students from a variety of disciplines. (All prospective majors must maintain a 3.0 grade point average in the first nine credits of economics to qualify as majors.) Matriculation as an economics major requires departmental approval. ECONOMICS CONCENTRATION AT THE W. PAUL STILLMAN SCHOOL OF BUSINESS As an economics major in the School of Business, you will be required to complete the Business School core curriculum requirement of 60 credits. You receive experience in all areas of business study exposure: finance, marketing, accounting, business law, management information systems, and management and industrial relations. The program is fully accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), a status held by less than 10 percent of the private business programs in the United States. ECONOMICS CONCENTRATION: COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES As an economics major in the College of Arts and Sciences, you must fulfill the requirements for the core curriculum in the College of Arts and Sciences: 54 core courses plus six electives. This track allows you to develop your interests and improve your skills in diverse areas. The program is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The major has identical course requirements regardless of the students school or college affiliation. It consists of 30 required credits in economics, mathematics and statistics. In addition, the student must complete 15 credits of elective courses in economics which allow for specialization in monetary, international, labor and quantitative economics among others. B.A./M.B.A. Program The
B.A./M.B.A. program allows students who major in economics in the College of
Arts and Sciences to earn a bachelor’s degree and a Master of Business
Administration in five years. By carefully selecting courses, students can
complete the requirements for both degrees in as few as 150 credit hours. Students
spend the first three years taking arts and sciences courses. At the end of the
third year, they apply to the M.B.A. program. If accepted, students take a
mixture of arts and sciences and business courses during the fourth year. The
fifth year is reserved exclusively for graduate business courses. When
students have completed all arts and sciences requirements and 130 credit hours,
they receive a bachelor’s degree. After completing the M.B.A. requirements and
150 total credit hours, students also receive an M.B.A. Students
must be accepted into the M.B.A. program before they may take graduate courses.
Students who are rejected may complete the requirements for the bachelor’s
degree. |
